Blog > The writings on the wall for popular Sussex pub

Signwriting on walls has been around since the Romans and there is something very natural about the way it becomes part of the fabric of the building.

Cost effective as a sign, it delivers huge visual impact to a business or home, and is often favoured upon listed buildings and within conservation zones, and often does not require planning permission.

This sign was carefully marked out and painted by hand directly to the rough brickwork,- ( a surface with which modern signmaking methods would not be able to cope !)

The Walnut Tree at Runcton West Sussex is one of the nicest traditional bars around, -so it deserved some nice signwriting......., I wonder how many of my signwriter-predecessors have written directly on this wall?
